Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technician


Responsible for maintaining facilities by ensuring all facilities and plant equipment are functioning, clean, orderly, attractive, and compliant with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will perform minor and routine building maintenance tasks and arrange for the repair and upkeep of equipment.


  • Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures of the facility
  • Provide safety training to all managers/supervisors and employees
  • Review safety statistics, conduct trend analysis, and make recommendations for continual improvements
  • Conduct required workplace inspections and facility audits and provide a corrective/preventative action plan complete with responsibilities and timelines
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on machines and facility based on pre-determined schedules
  • Maintain records including entry of data into computer system
  • Monitor office equipment and arrange for and oversee repairs by contacting appropriate technicians
  • Assist in moving, hooking up, and placing machines as requested
  • Conduct job hazard analyses and ergonomic assessments
  • Monitor the temperature throughout the facility, making needed adjustments to maintain the comfort of employees
  • Manage contractors that perform facilities-related tasks
  • Instruct contractors on the proper use of security badges and related building access and equipment
  • Ensure contractors comply with federal and state codes and regulations and Provincial Acts
  • Manage work requests and preventive/predictive maintenance system and activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management


  • Electrical and mechanical aptitude
  • 3-5 years of experience with carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and maintenance repair


  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree in relevant field and/or certification/license in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and/or industrial training/experience, including a thorough understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems


  • Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects


  • Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as:
    • Preparing and analyzing data and figures
    • Transcribing
    • Viewing a computer screen
    • Extensive reading
    • Visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operating machines
    • Using measurement devices
    • Assembly or fabrication of parts at distance close to the eyes


  • Worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature change
  • Worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: No effective protection from the weather
  • Worker is subject to extreme hot or cold: Temperature typically below 32 degrees for more than one hour with environmental conditions such as wind and humidity
  • Worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperature above 100 degrees for more than one hour with environmental conditions such as wind and humidity
  • Worker is subject to noise: Sufficient noise to cause a worker to shout to be heard above ambient noise
  • Worker is subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body
  • Worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat, or exposure to chemicals
  • Worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids
  • Worker is frequently in close quarters that could aggravate claustrophobia: crawl spaces; shafts; manholes; small, enclosed rooms; small sewage and water line pipes; and other areas
  • Worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways
